4 Habits for healthier skin that you can start today

New Year. New Habits. Healthier Skin.

The beginning of the year is a great time to develop new habits so we can achieve our goals. How about skincare goals? Those require forming daily habits too. Here are 4 habits for healthier skin that you can start today.

Habit # 1. Apply moisturizer right after you shower
The best time to apply your skin care products is right after you’ve rinsed off with water. Water is probably the best hydrator but water by itself isn't enough to keep your skin moisturized for long periods. Whether you use oils, body butter, creams, lotions, etc. applying it on damp skin will help lock the water's moisture in helping your skin stay hydrated all day long.

Habit # 2. Stay Hydrated
Water, water, water! Don’t underestimate the power of water. When it comes to skincare we must stay hydrated. What does this look like? Each day you should be making an effort to drink at least 2 liters of water -  push it to a gallon (3 liters) if you can.  Our body depends on ridding itself of toxins so it can function properly and do things like replenishing the tissues of our skin which helps increase skin elasticity by keeping our skin collagen hydrated.

Habit # 3. Exercise
You’re probably wondering, “what does exercise have to do with skincare?” Exercising means increasing blood flow which helps our skin cells get the nutrients it needs so that our skin is well-nourished. Just 30 minutes a few days out of the week can make a difference.

Habit # 4.  Make that appointment
Sometimes we have to take it a step further and make that appointment with the dermatologist. Life gets really busy as we are fulfilling so many roles and these things end up being neglected on our to-do list. Put yourself first and get in the habit of locking in those appointments for your health. The functioning of our bodies has a lot to do with how our skin is showing up on the outside. If the above habits are already a part of your routine and you’re still not seeing results OR you’ve noticed a difference in your skin, don't become a product junky and try to buy your way out of the problem. Seek a professional first to save yourself time, money, and energy.

We hope these habits were helpful.

Happy New Year, 4 Us Fam!
